About

My name is Karen Johnson and I live with my husband and our two children in Durham in North East England. I am a member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading and follow their Professional Practice Code.

After completing my BA in Japanese and German, I moved to rural Japan where I taught English at a Junior High School for a couple of years. I then returned to the UK and worked as a paralegal while studying part time for the Graduate Diploma in Law at BPP Law School in London. I have experience in immigration, criminal and employment law and have worked with clients in both the private and public sector, including the NHS. Attention to detail and effective written and verbal communication skills have been of paramount importance throughout my career to date.

I am a CIEP-trained freelance proofreader and am proficient in Adobe Reader comment tools, Word Track Changes and BSI Proof-correction marks. I will happily consider most areas of proofreading, but I will also be honest, and if I feel that you would benefit from working with a proofreader with a particular specialism, I will tell you this at the outset.
