Each proofreading project is different. For example, a 1000-word document with lots of errors will take much longer to proofread than a 3000-word document that has been copy edited and meticulously checked by the author. It would therefore be unfair to each of us if word count was the only consideration when it came to providing a quote for proofreading.

Before providing a quote, I will always ask you to send me the following:

  • word count
  • type of project, e.g. article, report, novel, pamphlet etc.
  • document format, e.g. PDF, Word, etc.
  • how the document is to be annotated, e.g. track changes, commenting tools etc.
  • a short sample of your work, usually about 500 words
  • your preferred turnaround time

Once I have this information, I will respond with a quote as soon as possible. If you haven’t heard from me after 48 hours, please feel free to chase up a response.

To give you a rough idea, I base my fees on the CIEP suggested minimum rates for proofreaders. I offer a discounted rate for students which I will provide on enquiry. Short turnaround times will incur an additional charge.
